Experience and Expertise:
How Savvice's IRT helped NLEX Corp. during Typhoon Carina

The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) is a 105 km-long tollway that connects Metro Manila to key areas in Bulacan and Pampanga. Along with its sister tollways, the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and NLEX Connector, it serves as a major passageway for goods and services deliveries and local tourism for the Luzon region.

On July 24, 2024 (PHT), Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi) caused torrential rains and intensified as a Super Typhoon in the Philippines, despite not making landfall.

Typhoon Carina caused widespread damage across various parts of Luzon, notably causing major flooding that led to entry/exit plaza closures and people getting stranded in some areas along NLEX. As early as 7:00 a.m., parts of NLEX started to become impassable to all types of vehicles with some reports saying that flood levels reached the height of an average person.

At 10:30 p.m., NLEX Corporation announced that the entire main line of their expressways as well as all entry/exit plazas are back to normal operations.

NLEX Corporation is the builder-concessionaire of NLEX, SCTEX, and NLEX Connector. NLEX Corp. is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., the biggest toll road developer and operator in the Philippines in terms of vehicle traffic volume, revenue levels, asset base, and combined length of expressways in kilometers.

"Rain or shine, you will not hear a single complaint. Even when already drenched in rain, they will not leave the site until the work is done.
Maaasahan talaga sila. Hindi sila bibitaw hangga't may problema sa carriageway, hangga't mayroon obstruction."

- Ariel Salita, Traffic Control Room Supervisor, NLEX Corp.
